2020 Dietary Guidelines likely to reduce big cuts in sugar consumption

The committee working on formulating the 2020 Dietary Guidelines for Americans, which includes a group of 20 doctors, registered dietitians and public health experts, is expected to recommend that the daily percentage of calories consumed from added sugars be reduced to six percent, down from the 10 percent in the current recommendations. Half of all Americans suffer from one or more preventable, chronic diseases including obesity. About two thirds of the adults in the U.S. are overweight or obese.
