A shortage of workers and the desire for increased margins has led Seven & i Holdings, the owner of 7-Eleven, to announce plans to switch to fully automated checkouts by 2025. The chain plans to deploy radio frequency identification technology as part of its plan to eliminate the need for manual barcode scanning.
