Lidl has opened its first of six planned stores in New Jersey. It follows Aldi, which first opened in the state in 1973 and now has close to 30 stores. Both chains, which emphasize low price store brands, also like to throw in some surprises with an aisle dedicated to in-and-out items that vary week-to-week.
