Amazon pursues greater incentives as its business grows

In 2017, Amazon was seeking billions of dollars in tax incentives from local and state governments looking to attract the company’s HQ2 project. At the same time, Jeff Bezos and top executives were also looking to secure an additional $1 billion for other real estate projects. Since then, Amazon shifted its strategy from seeking tax breaks for real estate to receiving incentives for transportation and workforce-related goals.
