Apple forced to hand over 13 billion Euros in Ireland tax dispute

The European Commission last year ruled the effective 1 percent tax rate that Ireland gave Apple was illegal and insisted the country collect the back taxes amounting to the equivalent of over $15 billion US. Ireland continues to strongly contest the decision but will collect the payment from Apple which will be placed in escrow while the final deliberations are completed.
