Barneys New York has failed to produce the sales volume necessary to keep up with the high rents it pays for its A-list locations. Now, people familiar with the matter say Barneys is working with a law firm on a potential bankruptcy filing in the coming weeks. The retailer operates 28 total locations, including its department stores, warehouse outlets and Freds restaurants.
