Bookstore uses clickbait to trick people into reading classic novels
March 16, 2017
A photo of a destroyed home is accompanied by ad copy on Facebook that reads: “You’ll never guess what happened to this Kansas teen after tornado destroys her home.” Wild Detectives, a bookstore in Dallas, is using similar posts to get people to read copyright-free novels. The campaign, which launched on National Read a Book Day in September, has led to a 14,000 percent boost in traffic to the bookstore’s website and 150 percent more post engagement on Facebook.
