China’s JD.com may one-up Amazon Go

While Amazon has played up the PR value of its nascent Go automated convenience store concept, JD.com, the second largest e-commerce retailer in China, is planning to roll out hundreds of unmanned stores that it claims will outmatch Amazon in terms of technical sophistication. Much like Amazon Go, the JD.com concept makes use of technology to track customers’ movements and which products they select, but by using facial recognition tech the company will purportedly also learn those shoppers’ preferences over time in order to make personalized offers.

Waffle House Workers Strike for Fair Pay and Better Working Conditions

Waffle House workers in Conyers, Georgia, are now on their third day of striking over what they call the company’s unfair policies. Led by the Union of Southern Service Workers (USSW), Waffle House employees are demanding an end to the mandatory “meal credit” deductions from their paychecks, along with better wages and improved working conditions.
