Forbes columnist Walter Loeb estimates that 21 major chains will close 3,591 stores this year, putting at least 50,000 people out of work. Writes Mr. Loeb about the situation, “The environment has finally forced managements to come to grips with reality. I still believe that even more stores must be closed.”
