April 3, 2018

Local religious leaders and the Rev. Jesse Jackson are calling on residents in areas of Memphis, TN to boycott Kroger after the supermarket chain closed two stores in predominantly African-American neighborhoods. Kroger said it was forced to take the action after the stores lost millions in recent years. The community leaders claim the store closings will create hardships for residents. The Memphis City Council recently approved a study to try and figure out how to attract grocers to underserved areas.
