Advil Allergy Goes OTC

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved Advil Allergy Sinus Caplets
for over the counter (OTC) sales.


The new item, manufactured by Wyeth Consumer Healthcare, includes a combination
of ibuprofen, pseudoephedrine and chlorpheniramine to relieve the systems of
hay fever and other allergies.

  1. How is the trend of consumers self-medicating affecting
    (and will it affect) Rx and OTC health product sales?

  2. Should there be a third classification for medicine
    sales to fill-in between Rx or OTC? [George
