Friendly’s co-founder dies

Curtis Blake, who opened the first Friendly’s ice cream shop in 1935 with his brother S. Prestley, has died at the age of 102. The original Friendly’s opened during the Great Depression and the brothers marketed nickel ice cream, about half price others were charging, as a means to drive traffic.
