Kroger CEO defends cost-cutting moves

Some Kroger investors are concerned that cost-cutting is beginning to affect the quality of the shopping experience at the chain’s stores. CEO Rodney McMullen said those concerns are misplaced. “What we’re doing is saving where we can save it so we can invest it where we need to invest it,” he said. “But actually our average number of hours in our store is higher than a year ago.”

Waffle House workers in Conyers, Georgia, are now on their third day of striking over what they call the company’s unfair policies.
