Masks interfere with customer and workplace communications

Retail and restaurant workers make it more difficult to communicate friendliness to customers and coworkers. Tykeara Philips is an associate at a Finish Line store in Baltimore. “I’ve been working here for two months but it still feels like we’re strangers,” she said. “I don’t even know what most of my coworkers look like without masks. It’s like: Go to work, go home, and that’s it.”
