Meat recalls have spiked in recent years

An analysis of U.S .Department of Agricultural data by the U.S. Public Interest Research Group finds that Class I meat recalls grew 85 percent between 2013 and 2019. The number of Class II recalls increased 52 percent. In 2013, the U.S. recalled around 13 million pounds of meat. That rose to more than 20 million pounds last year.
