Retail vacancies in the Atlanta market are at their lowest levels in 17 years, according to data from CoStar, certainly a different story than news out of Manhattan where empty storefronts plague top shopping districts. Retail developers such as Simon have in fact been bullish in response to the strong economy of the past couple of years — a $300 million redesign of at the Phipps Plaza in Atlanta is a current example.
