Oregon retailers prepare for life without plastic bags

A new Oregon law banning plastic bags goes into effect on Jan. 1. Stores can charge customers 5 cents for each recyclable paper bag used to offset the higher cost, but the effort is intended to encourage shoppers to buy reusable bags. One store has dropped the price from $4.99 for a reusable shopping bag to two for $1.00 in efforts to help shoppers with the transition.
