OxyContin maker files for bankruptcy

Purdue Pharma, which has been the target of legal suits over its role in the opioid crisis affecting the U.S., filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. The company made the move to shield itself from the thousands of local, state and federal lawsuits brought against it. Purdue Pharma’s filing follows a report by the New York Attorney General’s office that it has discovered nearly a billion dollars in wire transfers made from the company to its owners.
