Private equity firm to acquire Barnes & Noble

Elliott Management has reached a deal to acquire Barnes & Noble for $683 million. The bookstore chain, which has struggled to compete with Amazon.com, has been pursuing a sale since last year. Barnes & Noble’s stock price jumped 30 percent on the news that it was being taken private in the deal.
