Reports Show Worse-Than-Predicted Results at Retail

A survey from MasterCard Inc.’s SpendingPulse unit showed total retail sales (excl. automobiles) down by 5.5 percent for November and slumping by 8 percent for December through Christmas Eve vs. year age – in contrast to earlier forecasters’ estimates ranging from a fall of 1 percent to an increase of 2.2 percent.
