Stores, e-commerce operations and related companies need to hire 704,000 seasonal workers, the most since 2014, to help them get through the Christmas selling season. With the unemployment rate at its lowest level in 50 years, companies are turning to cash bonuses, merchandise — diamond earrings, kayaks, etc. — and raffles for vacations to attract workers.
