Seaport shipments are up ahead of the holidays

Imports coming into American ports by ship rose 4.9 percent in September, according to Panjiva. Increased activity at U.S. seaports is an indication of rising inventory levels at retailers in advance of the Christmas selling season. The National Retail Federation has forecast sales will increase between 3.6 percent and four percent over the holidays.
