Staples considers selling retail business to Office Depot

Staples, which agreed to be acquired by Sycamore Partners for $6.9 billion, has held talks with Office Depot about selling its North American retail business, according to unnamed sources who spoke with the New York Post. Staples operates 1,500 stores in North America. The two companies attempted to merge in 2015, but the deal was blocked by federal regulators.
