TJX and Target expand store counts

TJX management believes there is an opportunity for the company, which operates T.J. Maxx and Marshalls, to open as many as 5,600 stores, up from its current total of 1,700. Target, under CEO Brian Cornell, sees small stores located in urban areas and college towns as a means to increase its footprint across the country.
