Walgreens scales back store footprint in U.S. and Europe

Walgreens announced it is closing 200 of its Boots drugstores in the U.K. and consolidating them with other locations as part of the company’s “transformation cost management program.” The move follows a decision to close an additional 150 formers Rite Aid locations acquired by Walgreens. The chain, which purchased over 1,900 locations from Rite Aid, initially planned to close 600 stores.
