Whole Foods’s same-store sales continue going south

The organic grocery chain’s same-store sales have declined for six straight quarters. Whole Foods has faced increased competition from mainstream grocery stores as well as niche players such as Fresh Market, Sprouts and Trader Joe’s. Mass-market retailers now account for 53 percent of organic food sales compared to 37 percent for specialty chains such as Whole Foods.
