Women turn to off-pricers, mass merchants for clothing

Barneys New York, Chico’s, J.C. Penney and other retailers are closing stores as women turn to retailers such as Marshall’s, T.J. Maxx, Target and Walmart to buy their clothing. Clothing purchases by female baby boomers has increased four percent while sales to Gen Xers is down one percent, according to The NPD Group.
