3M plans to cease manufacturing products containing ‘forever chemicals’

The maker of Scotch tape and Post-It notes has decided that the writing is on the wall when it comes to the use of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in manufacturing. Recently, the EPS has proposed banning PSAS as hazardous materials and lawsuits are targeting manufacturers in order to recoup cleanup costs. “While PFAS can be safely made and used, we also see an opportunity to lead in a rapidly evolving external regulatory and business landscape to make the greatest impact for those we serve,” said 3M CEO Mike Roman in announcing the decision.
