Verfico, a digital compliance solutions provider, has released the results of its 2023 Verfico Survey: Wage Theft in America, shedding light on the alarming lack of awareness surrounding wage theft and its implications for both companies and employees.

The nationwide survey, conducted with 1,000 adults, revealed that only 20% of respondents could accurately define wage theft, while 10% mistakenly believed it referred to employees stealing from their employers. Additionally, 38% of Americans reported personal experiences or knowledge of someone affected by wage theft, with the construction industry particularly impacted. However, 57% of wage theft victims did not report the incident, citing lack of knowledge and fear of reprisals as major deterrents.

The survey highlights the need for increased awareness, education, and policy solutions to combat wage theft and create fairer workplaces. Verfico aims to empower employers and employees to address this issue and promote justice and equity in the workforce.
