There’s Still a Sriracha Shortage and Third-Party Vendors Are Selling the Sauce for up to $23 on Amazon

August 22, 2023

The ongoing Sriracha shortage, stemming from a chili pepper scarcity due to weather conditions, has led third-party vendors to sell the popular hot chili sauce for up to $23 a bottle on platforms like Amazon. Huy Fong Foods, the company behind Sriracha, had previously pointed to climate-related issues causing the shortage, but it didn’t mention the legal dispute it has been engaged in with its main pepper supplier, Underwood Ranches, since 2017. Underwood Ranches won a civil lawsuit against Huy Fong, alleging breach of contract and fraud, and was awarded $23.3 million.
