Verizon Class Action Lawsuit: Could You Be Eligible for a $100 Settlement?
January 4, 2024
Are you a Verizon Wireless customer? If so, you might have noticed an email about a proposed class action settlement, and here’s a breakdown of everything you need to know, explained in simple terms.
The lawsuit accuses Cellco Partnership, doing business as Verizon Wireless, of imposing an unfair “Administrative Charge” on its post-paid consumer wireless accounts. The lawsuit argues that these additional fees were not adequately disclosed to the customers.
Verizon, however, denies any wrongdoing, stating that it will continue to charge the Administrative Charge. Despite the company’s denial, a settlement has been proposed that would end the lawsuit and provide benefits to customers who file a claim. These charges may seem small and insignificant, leading many customers to overlook them. However, they quickly add up over time, leading to substantial long-term costs.
Now, the big question — do you qualify for the Verizon Class Action Settlement?
Those included in the “Settlement Class” are customers residing in the United States who received postpaid wireless or data services from Verizon. Those who have been charged and paid an Administrative Charge between Jan. 1, 2016, and Nov. 8, 2023, are eligible. If you’ve received a notice from Verizon, it’s because their records show that you are part of this class.
So, what’s the potential payout if the settlement gets approved?
Verizon will create a $100 million settlement fund. Each eligible Verizon account holder could qualify for up to $100. Not a retirement fund, but it’s something. However, the final amount to each individual will be dependent on the duration of their Verizon service and the number of valid claims filed.
The deadline for filing a claim is April 15, 2024.
Once you’ve filed a claim, keep an eye on your emails for one containing a Notice ID and Confirmation Code. To find out more or initiate a claim, visit www.VerizonAdministrativeChargeSettlement.com.
