Sonic Introduces Peanut Butter Burgers to Its Menu
January 9, 2024
Sonic Drive-In, the popular fast-food chain, is introducing a new combination to its menu: a peanut butter and bacon cheeseburger. This unique burger will be available for a limited period starting from Jan. 8 until Feb. 4.
While this first-time introduction of peanut butter to its menu and this particular pairing may seem unusual to some, Sonic encourages customers to give it a try. The chain believes that the salty crunch of bacon coupled with the sweet and creamy taste of peanut butter provides a unique but satisfying blend of flavors.
The new menu item, named the SuperSONIC Double Cheeseburger, has a starting price of $6.39. It includes two beef patties, slathered with creamy peanut butter, and is accompanied by cheese, bacon, and grilled onions on a toasted bun.
A recent customer review highlights a disappointing experience with Sonic’s new peanut butter and bacon cheeseburger. When the customer unwrapped their order on Monday, they were expecting a heavy smear of creamy peanut butter blanketing the meat patties. Instead, they encountered a traditional double burger with cheese, bacon, and onions, with the critical ingredient seemingly missing.
The customer had to lift off the top bun to find a thin layer of peanut butter. While they were initially skeptical about the quantity, they remained hopeful that the chain had controlled the condiment’s portion to prevent overpowering the rest of the ingredients.
However, successive bites did not live up to their expectation. The customer tasted the flavorful patties, creamy cheese, crispy bacon, and fresh onions, but the peanut butter — the supposed star of the sandwich — was virtually nonexistent. Even after four bites, they yearned for the rich peanut butter flavor promised by Sonic.
Despite finding the burger satisfactory on its own terms, the customer felt underwhelmed considering what they had originally ordered. They believe that a more generous application of peanut butter could have dramatically transformed their experience.
While the customer commended Sonic for their innovative approach, they suggested that the fast-food chain needs to revisit its portion control policies, particularly when it comes to the featured ingredient of a new item.
This new peanut butter and bacon combo does not stop at burgers. Sonic is also launching a peanut butter bacon shake during the same promotional period. This shake, offered at a price of $3.99 for a medium size, blends peanut butter and crispy bacon with vanilla soft serve, topped with whipped cream and a cherry.
Sonic is known for its willingness to experiment with unusual flavors, as evidenced in its past offering of the Pickle Juice Slush. The company believes that these new peanut butter and bacon items will pique customer curiosity and encourage them to experience these unique flavor combinations.
