Pizza Hut Introduces Goodbye Pies for Valentine’s Day

February 7, 2024

This Valentine’s season, Pizza Hut is rolling out a rather perplexing product: Goodbye Pies. Seemingly designed to help those wanting to end their relationships before Valentine’s Day, these pies offer customers a chance to “ditch that awkward break-up convo and send a pizza instead.” They are being launched in three U.S. cities — New York, Chicago, and Miami.

Each Goodbye Pie comes in a stark, specially designed box with a space for the sender to sign their name. This ostentatious touch, however, does little to lessen the harshness of the breakup. As for the pizza inside, it’s Pizza Hut’s new menu item, the Hot Honey pizza. Its flavors, both sweet and hot, mirror the conflicting emotions associated with a parting.

The Goodbye Pies, however, come with their fair share of limitations. They are available only up to Valentine’s Day and restricted to three cities at the following locations:

  • 970 Columbus Ave., New York
  • 2516 W. North Ave., Chicago, Illinois
  • 2101 NW 17th Ave., Miami, Florida

Another notable factor is the constrained stock. With a mere 11 Goodbye Pies on offer at each location per day, it appears this promotion might be more of a publicity stunt than a genuine customer offering. The promotion is effective from Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2024, until Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2024.

Securing a Goodbye Pie is not straightforward either. Customers must visit the specific Goodbye Pies website where the detailed rules, limits, and restrictions are listed. If unsuccessful, they can resort to an equally strange alternative — sending a breakup text and gift card through the website. The gift card entitles the recipient to a free Hot Honey pizza, seeming more like a consolation prize than a sincere gesture. And with only 55 gift cards available per day nationwide, it might not be easy to get a hold of these items either.
