Scarbo Vintage Unveils World’s First Street-Legal Hypertruck
February 15, 2024
In the latest automotive news, California-based Scarbo Vintage has rolled out its third creation, claiming it to be the world’s inaugural street-legal Hypertruck. Dubbed the SV Rover, this two-seater marvel comes with a formidable choice of powertrains, boasting either a 1,100-horsepower supercharged V8 or a 1,000-horsepower electric drive. With a starting price of $1.5 million, it’s definitely not for the faint of heart.
Originally conceived as a desert racer for Baja, the SV Rover recently made its debut at Colorado’s FAT International Ice Race, showcasing its capabilities not only for high-speed desert racing but also for navigating technical off-road terrains. Drawing inspiration from the classic Land Rover Defender, Scarbo Vintage has infused the SV Rover with a blend of American muscle and action-movie extravagance.
Under the hood, drivers have the option of a roaring 6.2-liter supercharged V8 engine paired with a 65-gallon fuel tank and an 8-speed paddle-shift automatic transmission. Alternatively, eco-conscious enthusiasts can opt for a 750-kilowatt electric drive matched with a 75-kilowatt-per-hour battery pack.
Regardless of the powertrain chosen, the SV Rover ensures power is distributed efficiently to all four wheels, with the option of selecting 2WD mode. Its high/low-range transfer case, selectable front/rear locking differentials, four-wheel steering, and independent pushrod suspension provide unparalleled maneuverability and control. Plus, with 40-inch tires mounted on 20-inch forged wheels and Brembo six-piston brakes, stopping power is never in short supply.
Inside the cabin, the SV Rover offers modest comforts with two bucket seats, a digital gauge cluster, an infotainment display, a premium audio system, air conditioning, heating, and power door locks and windows. While details about cargo capacity remain undisclosed, each vehicle is custom-built to the customer’s specifications.
Despite the lack of pricing and availability details in the press materials, Motor Authority reports that interested buyers can expect to pay a starting price of $1.5 million for this extraordinary machine. With its blend of power, performance, and rugged design, the SV Rover is poised to redefine the boundaries of street-legal hypertrucks.
