Air Fryer Recall: Best Buy Urges Immediate Action
March 15, 2024
Best Buy is urging customers who purchased an Insignia air fryer to act fast, as the company issues a recall due to potential hazards. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission flagged concerns about fire, burns, and lacerations linked to these appliances.
The problem lies in the air fryers overheating, causing handles to melt or break, and even leading to glass on the door shattering. Around 187,400 units were sold in the U.S., with an additional 99,900 sold in Canada between November 2021 and November 2023. Customers who bought these air fryers should unplug them immediately and refrain from further use.
To resolve the issue, customers are entitled to a refund in the form of a check or Best Buy store credit. They’ll need to provide photos of the recalled unit, the model number, purchase receipt, and possibly destroy the unit to claim the refund. Model numbers affected include NS-AF34D2, NS-AF5DSS2, NS-AF5MSS2, NS-AF8DBD2, NS-AF10DBK2, and NS-AF10DSS2.
If you’ve purchased one of these air fryers, it’s essential not to return it to Best Buy stores but instead, adhere to the commission’s refund guidelines. Fortunately, despite the malfunctions, there have been no reported injuries or property damages so far, but it’s crucial to prioritize safety in your kitchen. For those considering a replacement air fryer, remember to unplug it when not in use to prevent fires. Additionally, always use oven-safe mitts or silicone gloves when handling the appliance during operation to minimize risks.
Avoiding cooking sprays with propellants and choosing oil sprays or pumps with high-flash-point oil for safer cooking practices is highly recommended. It’s paramount to stay safe and ensure your kitchen appliances are hazard-free. If you’ve purchased an Insignia air fryer during the specified period, it’s imperative to take action now to secure your refund and prevent any potential accidents. Your safety should always be a top priority in your home.
