BMW Motorrad Recalls 2024 Models for Suspension Concern
March 19, 2024
BMW Motorrad, a renowned motorcycle manufacturer, has recently announced a recall for specific 2024 models in the United States. Among the affected models are the R 1250 RT and the K 1600 GT and GTL. This precautionary measure comes in response to a potential issue identified with the front suspension strut, which could pose safety risks over time, potentially leading to accidents.
The primary focus of the recall revolves around the Electronic Suspension Adjustment (ESA) strut, a critical component supplied by one of BMW’s vendors. There are concerns that the valve within the damper may have been produced using materials that do not meet the required specifications. As a result, there is a possibility of a gradual loosening of the valve, leading to inadequate or improper damping. Such an occurrence could significantly impact the stability of the motorcycle, especially during high-speed rides or when navigating uneven road surfaces.
To address this safety concern, BMW has taken decisive action by identifying the affected batch of front struts and issuing instructions to authorized service centers. These service centers are tasked with conducting thorough inspections of the affected motorcycles and implementing necessary modifications to rectify the issue. Owners will be promptly notified by the company regarding the scheduling of these inspections and any required adjustments.
Despite the absence of reported incidents associated with the faulty struts, BMW has opted to proactively initiate this recall in the interest of ensuring customer safety and satisfaction.
As of the latest update, BMW Motorrad India has not issued any recalls for the aforementioned models sold within the country. However, stakeholders are advised to stay vigilant and informed, as updates regarding potential recalls may emerge in the future.
BMW Motorrad’s voluntary recall underscores the company’s commitment to prioritizing safety and upholding the highest standards of quality in its products. Stay tuned for further updates on this evolving situation.
