Costco Emerges as a Hot Spot for Birthday Celebrations
May 13, 2024
A TikTok video showcasing a Tennessee woman surprising her husband with a birthday celebration at Costco has gathered more than 11 million views.
The video captures their experience, from stepping into the store and unexpectedly meeting friends to her husband learning it’s a surprise party. It concludes with a birthday celebration in the food court with guests gathered around a Costco birthday cake, and there’s even a clown creating balloon animals.
The woman shared with People magazine that she invited approximately 30 family and friends to her husband’s surprise 27th birthday celebration on May 5 held at Costco.
She said, “We love to be silly and so it was the perfect plan.” She also shared that her husband is a big Costco enthusiast: “If I’m out of town or having a girls’ night, you know Clint is at Costco.”
According to a store employee, Costco typically does not host birthday parties and adheres strictly to store rules. As a result, individuals on the guest list must either be store members or accompany members as guests.
Other Costco fans have also planned birthday celebrations at the store. There are numerous TikTok videos featuring Costco birthday parties that have recently gained widespread traction.
Costco members have come up with innovative ways to set apart birthday celebrations from ordinary visits to the store.
Another TikTok video, which went viral with over 2 million views, depicts a dedicated Costco fan being pleasantly surprised with a birthday celebration arranged for him by his wife at a Costco store.
In April, the husband is captured bumping into his friends and family members by surprise throughout the store.
As mentioned on the overlay of the TikTok video that his wife @katscollections posted, he didn’t realize it was a surprise until all the guests were gathered in the food court singing Happy Birthday to him.
In another TikTok, the wife explained that she set up a Facebook group to invite his friends and family to the Costco store in Kansas City.
One comment on the video mentioned how lucky the couple was that all their guests were members.
In a video sequel, the wife posted, “If friends and family didn’t have a membership, they just met us in the food court.”
But it seems the fun might not last, as Costco is becoming stricter with non-members visiting the food court.
