Netflix Series ‘Stranger Things’ to Take Center Stage at Six Flags’ Fright Fest

June 26, 2024

Six Flags is ramping up for this year’s Fright Fest with major partnerships in place. The theme park has announced collaborations with Netflix, Warner Bros., Lionsgate, and Legendary for its Halloween event at its venues across the U.S.

Six Flags Magic Mountain in Southern California and Six Flags Great Adventure in New Jersey are set for a full Fright Fest makeover this year, emphasizing a strong lineup of intellectual properties. New to the line-up this year is Netflix’s “Stranger Things,” which will make its mark alongside last year’s popular attractions including “Saw,” “The Conjuring,” “Army of the Dead,” and “Trick ‘r Treat.”

Edithann Ramey, Six Flags’ Chief Commercial Officer and “Chief Fright Officer,” said, “I think Halloween turns the world upside down, and these Halloween movies are thrill rides, so it just became like the perfect fit for us.” He added, “It’s our busiest time of the year across the whole nation, and so we did want to invest big on making them the most exciting they can be.”

From September 7 onwards, Six Flags Great Adventure in New Jersey and Six Flags Magic Mountain in Los Angeles will introduce new mazes catering to horror enthusiasts. Smaller versions of these attractions will also be available at other Six Flags locations across the U.S.

In a statement, Edithann Ramey, “Chief Fright Officer” of Six Flags, said, “For over 30 years, Fright Fest has been haunting the thrills-and-chills season like no other, and this year we are turning things upside down with an array of amazing horror franchises.” He added, “We take pride in offering the best experiences and are committed to innovating our parks every year.”

Netflix is making waves beyond traditional entertainment with two of its five new mazes debuting at Six Flags theme parks. This partnership marks a significant expansion for the streaming giant into immersive experiences, highlighting its interest in the theme park industry despite not having its own venue yet.

However, this is about to change as this month, Netflix announced its upcoming plans to launch Netflix House venues in 2025. These 100,000-square-foot locations will be based in former department store spaces at King of Prussia Mall near Philadelphia and the Galleria Dallas. While the venues won’t include rides, they will offer immersive experiences themed around Netflix’s most popular shows.
