KFC Introduces New $5 Menu Deals, 3 New Saucy Nuggets Flavors

August 19, 2024

KFC has announced new $5 deals to its Taste of KFC menu in the brand’s latest salvo in the fast-food wars.

According to USA Today, the following menu items were added on August 12:

  • KFC Chicken Nuggets: Eight hand-breaded chicken nuggets made with KFC’s original recipe, paired with secret recipe fries and your choice of two dipping sauces.
  • Famous Bowl with KFC Chicken Nuggets: This bowl features a base of creamy mashed potatoes, sweet corn, and KFC’s 100% white meat chicken nuggets, all layered together, topped with home-style gravy, and finished with a blend of three shredded cheeses.
  • Two-Piece Drum & Thigh: Two pieces of hot and juicy fried chicken (drumstick and thigh), served with creamy mashed potatoes and gravy, plus a buttery biscuit on the side.

On top of these new $5 offers, KFC will still have its “$10 Tuesdays” promotion, which entitles patrons to a bucket of eight pieces of drums and thighs for $10.

The $20 Family Deal is another offer from the restaurant chain that is available all week long. Six pieces of bone-in chicken are included in the package — two drums, two thighs, one breast, and one wing — along with four different sides of your choice and four buttery biscuits.

Additionally, Southern Living is reporting that KFC has traded out three of its Saucy Nuggets flavors for something new. The chain is keeping Korean BBQ and Honey BBQ and dropping Sticky Chicky Sweet ‘n Sour, Georgia Gold, and Nashville Hot. As for the new Saucy Nuggets flavors, the following have been added to the menu: Chipotle Ranch, Mango Habanero, and Honey Garlic.

Customers can get one of these five flavors by ordering a 10-piece Saucy Nuggets for $5.99.

According to a KFC press release, “The new sauces will make their debut on a U.S. tour to keep the summer fun going through the end of the season. The KFC Sauce Serve Truck, a saucy take on the nostalgic ice cream truck, will hit the road starting August 17 and make stops in three U.S. cities. At the stops, fans can sauce their own (free!) KFC Nuggets in their choice of flavor or try all the new drips, as well as snag limited-edition merch and gift cards (while supplies last).” The road trip will make its second and third stops on August 24 and September 7.

The chicken chain is trying to recover from disastrous Q2 results, which were announced earlier this month.

Pizza Hut and KFC both fell short of expectations, despite Taco Bell announcing an enormous earnings quarter. The protracted hostilities in the Middle East are partially to blame for the downturn.

“The impacts from the Middle East conflict, in addition to a more cost-conscious consumer, have presented headwinds to same-store sales,” David Gibbs, the CEO of Yum! Brands, parent company of all three chains, told analysts on the earnings call. He continued by saying that, when compared to the previous quarter, sales trends in the United States had improved because of cheap dinners like Pizza Hut’s $7 Deal Lovers.

KFC reported a 3% decline in same-store sales internationally and a 5% drop in the U.S. specifically.
