Del Taco & Danny Trejo Join Forces on a New Menu Offering

August 23, 2024

Del Taco has announced a new collaboration with “Machete” actor Danny Trejo, whose Trejo’s Tacos restaurants in Southern California have proven to be a smash hit amongst discerning foodies.

In a press release announcement, it was revealed that the new Roasted Pork Al Pastor, which is already being served at Del Taco locations around the country, is the result of the fast-food chain’s partnership with Trejo’s Tacos. For the perfect balance of salty, spicy, and sweet, the fire-roasted pork is marinated with traditional spices like chipotle, onions, garlic, and sweet pineapple juice.

“Teaming up with Del Taco to roll out this Roasted Pork Al Pastor is like sharing a piece of my roots with everyone,” said Trejo, in a statement accompanying the press release announcement. “This isn’t just about flavor — it’s about putting my heart and soul into every bite. I’m excited for folks to taste the bold, authentic flavors that mean so much to me, now at a Del Taco near you.”

Del Taco is also launching its new Double Pineapple Drinks, which are crafted with actual fruit, to go with the savory flavor of the new Roasted Pork Al Pastor selection. Get a creamy Mini Shake with a hint of sweet pineapple flavoring and plenty of actual diced pineapple bits or grab a Minute Maid Zero Sugar Lemonade or Sprite. According to the fast-food chain, “These drinks are the perfect way to refresh and cool off during the summer season.”

Del Taco ranked first in USA Today’s 2024 Reader’s Choice 10 Best Fast-Food Restaurant rankings. The fast-food restaurant with a Mexican flair announced the opening of its Del’s Real Deal Menu on the same day as the announcement. The menu consists of 15 dishes that are all $2 or less. This inexpensive menu features popular choices like tacos, burritos, and nachos; it also now serves freshly made guacamole and chips.

“Real food made with real ingredients at a real deal is a nearly impossible combination to find in today’s food landscape. But at Del Taco, we’ve always believed in providing quality food at accessible prices,” said Sheena Dougher, head of marketing at Del Taco, in a statement accompanying the announcement of the Del’s Real Deal Meal. “We believe that the Del’s Real Deal Menu offers an unbeatable blend of quality, variety and affordability with 15 items all $2 and under. Plus, with the new addition of chips & house-made guacamole, our value menu is now even better as it highlights our commitment to our Del Taco® Better Mex® brand promise.”

After opening its first location in Yermo, California, in 1964, Del Taco quickly grew. It expanded the size of its menu and added more sites over time. By the 1970s, it had grown to 100 restaurants and was offering new menu items, including bun tacos and quesadillas. In 1988, Del Taco and Naugles merged to increase their clientele and offer 24-hour service. The 1990s saw the introduction of a new logo and brand enhancements, and the 2000s saw significant menu expansions that included Caramel Cheesecake Bites.
