Walmart Recalls Apple Juice Due to Elevated Arsenic Levels
August 26, 2024
The Food and Drug Administration has issued a recall of Great Value apple juice sold by Walmart. According to the FDA’s recall alert, roughly 9,535 of these products are affected. Refresco Beverages U.S. Inc. made the juices.
The product being recalled is a six-pack of 8-ounce plastic bottles filled with 100% apple juice. Its recall number is F-1746-2024, with a best-if-used-by date of DEC2824, CT89-6. The UPC is 0-78742-29655-5. According to the FDA, the product “contains inorganic arsenic above action level set in industry guidance.”
The FDA recall claims the products were sold at Walmart stores in Alabama, Connecticut, Delaware, the District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Mississippi, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Puerto Rico, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Vermont, Virginia, and West Virginia.

The Hill reports that a Walmart spokesperson stated that the company has removed the products from its shelves. “The health and safety of our customers is always a top priority,” the spokesperson said. “We have removed this product from our impacted stores and are working with the supplier to investigate.”
Per the FDA website, the recall was updated to a Class II. According to the agency, this is “a situation in which use of or exposure to a violative product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences or where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote.”
The FDA has not shared the number of illnesses potentially associated with the recall, but the levels found in the affected apple juice are low enough that the agency doesn’t think it will cause severe health issues.
This recall follows a candy recall issued at Walmart in May, per NJ.com. According to a recall notice from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, candies and snacks from the Palmer Candy Company sold at retailers such as Walmart and Target have been recalled due to the risk of salmonella poisoning. The recall was initiated in May and reclassified as a “Class I recall” on Aug. 6, 2024.
