KFC Enters Anime World With ‘Genshin Impact’ Collaboration

September 30, 2024

KFC has entered the world of anime in its latest attempt to appeal to a younger audience, with its longtime mascot Colonel Sanders appearing in a short video in the world of “Genshin Impact.”

According to ComicBook.com, Colonel Sanders now lives in an anime universe thanks to a collaboration between the chicken behemoth and the video game created by HoYoverse, giving the fast-food icon a virtual environment to explore. The game developer teamed up with KFC in a campaign that will involve limited-edition products available in stores and online in Japan starting on Oct. 2.

Thanks to its crazy gameplay and vast environment, “Genshin Impact” has amassed a sizable fan base and partnered with other companies as well. Earlier this month, the HoYoverse game teamed up with McDonald’s for an in-app-exclusive promotion.

In addition to Colonel Sanders joining the anime realm, KFC and “Attack on Titan” have partnered in China. Even after the publication of its spectacular climax, the anime series centered on Eren Jaeger, Mikasa, Armin, and the other soldiers of the Scout Regiment has continued to find fresh ways to come back. The collaboration saw the Titans slugging each other with fried chicken in addition to recreating key anime moments from the series. Many anime fans were taken aback by this, as the “Attack on Titan” story is more serious than comedic, exploring “some of the darkest moments in any anime,” per ComicBook.com.

KFC & Funko Collaboration

KFC collaborated with the recently launched “Funko Fusion” game earlier this month, enabling fans of the fast-food chicken chain and those adorable likeness dolls to get new outfits that, when played online, transform Colonel Sanders from his white suit into a whole new stylish look. The game was released on Sept. 13.

Colonel Sanders’ simple white suit variant can be found via an “in-game quest that is available to all players.” Mecha Colonel and Chef Colonel are the two additional special outfits that participants of the KFC Rewards X Funko Fusion collaboration can acquire on Steam and PlayStation 5. Mecha Colonel needs 250 points, or roughly $25 worth of KFC purchases, to unlock, while Chef Colonel can be unlocked for free.
