Walmart Announces ‘Inflation Free’ Thanksgiving Dinners for Less Than $7 Per Person

October 18, 2024

Walmart says it has the answer for inflation-weary customers who are scrimping and pinching to make ends meet: the inflation-free Thanksgiving dinner.

A press release announced that on Thursday, Oct. 17, the popular retailer formally unveiled its holiday dinner, offering consumers amazing discounts on their favorite meals, both early and at a lower cost than the previous year. Additionally, the retail giant is allowing shoppers to contribute a full meal to their local Salvation Army unit this year and deliver a meal directly to loved ones anywhere in the nation to spread even more pleasure during this joyous season of giving.

“Some of the holiday’s most special moments take place around the dinner table. At Walmart, we are committed to offering customers even deeper savings on top of our Every Day Low Prices for all their mealtime needs,” said John Laney, executive vice president of food at Walmart U.S., in a statement accompanying the press release. “And with more opportunities to gift a meal and give back to those in need, we’re helping customers spread holiday cheer to their loved ones and their local communities.”

The Thanksgiving feast includes all the holiday favorites, including turkey (at only 88 cents a pound), trimmings, and desserts. This year’s dinner costs less than $7 per person and includes 29 things to feed eight people. The basket can be purchased at Walmart.com/Thanksgiving.

Walmart Has Its Fair Share of Promotions

The affordable Thanksgiving dinner isn’t the only fun promotion running at the retail giant.

Earlier this week, it was announced that a “Wicked”-themed macaroni and cheese cup with a “mystery” color was released by Walmart in anticipation of the film’s theatrical release.

The supermarket’s Great Value brand produces microwaveable pink and green cups with silhouettes of Glinda and Elphaba, the two main characters from “Wicked.” The product has color-changing cheese that becomes pink or green when heated, according to Walmart’s website description.

“Which one will you get?” the package asks. When hot water is added and the product is cooked in the microwave, its color changes.
