Study: McDonald’s $5 Meal Deal Accounted for 9% of Company’s Total Dollars in Q3 & Q4

October 24, 2024

A new study reveals that McDonald’s summertime $5 Meal Deal accounted for 9% of the company’s total revenue dollars in Q3 and Q4, suggesting that the limited-time promotion was a success for the brand.

An M Science analysis claims that McDonald’s received more attention from customers for its discount offering than Burger King did for a comparable $5 deal. In the weeks after June 25, around 25% of McDonald’s patrons ordered the $5 Meal Deal, while roughly 10% of Burger King patrons did the same in the weeks after the chain’s June 10 $5 promotion.

Reviving lapsed consumers was another benefit of the summertime promotion. According to the report, 12% of patrons who bought the meal had not visited the restaurant in the preceding three months. About 5 percent were new clients.

M Science discovered that orders with the bundle had 12% higher checkers than those without it in the weeks after the launch of the $5 Meal Deal. More often than not, the offer has been ordered as an accessory to other products rather than as a stand-alone buy.

Finally, the company concluded that 9% of total dollars earned by the fast-food giant in Q3 and Q4 were courtesy of the $5 Meal Deal.

McDonald’s Extended Its Summertime Meal Deal

In an attempt to retain its client base, McDonald’s has said that it will prolong its $5 summer meal deal through the end of December.

Executives at McDonald’s are also encouraging customers to place their orders using the app since there will be flash specials till the end of the year. Customers can also earn points that can be exchanged for free food when the limited-time deals end.

Furthermore, fast-food establishments are not the only ones participating. Olive Garden also announced that its $13.99 Never-Ending Pasta Bowl promotion, which comes with pasta, breadsticks, plus soup or salad, will end on Nov. 17.

McDonald’s first unveiled its meal offer in June, following a poor first quarter that saw fewer visitors to the United States and lower order spending, particularly from consumers earning less than $45,000 annually. The $5 Meal Deal includes a four-piece Chicken McNuggets, small fries, a McChicken sandwich or McDouble burger, and a small drink.
