Celebrity Cruises Announces ‘Project Nirvana’ as It Envisions Its Latest Class of Ships

November 11, 2024

Celebrity Cruises is upping the ante on the cruise ship game by announcing its latest project, “Project Nirvana.”

According to Travel Weekly, Laura Hodges Bethge, the brand president, informed CruiseWorld participants last week that Celebrity Cruises is currently in the “dreaming stage” of developing its next generation of ships.

The undertaking has been dubbed Project Nirvana by the company, and it’s scheduled to launch by 2030 (though the exact date has not yet been confirmed).

“For those who have been doing this for a long time, you know you go from the dreaming stage to the receiving stage in five-ish years,” Bethge told the attendees. “We’re excited about what’s next for the brand.”

The brand’s fifth and last Edge-class ship, the Celebrity Xcel, is also scheduled to go into service in November of next year. According to Bethge, Celebrity will begin disclosing the ship’s features in the spring. The ship will be distinct from her sisters — Bethge said there will be seven new products and experiences.

Additionally, the cruise line has plans to improve its Solstice-class ships. “Those five beautiful ships are at what we call internally their half-life. Ships last around 30 years, and they’re about 15 years old, so right now we’re dreaming up what’s going to happen with the modernization of the Solstice ships,” she said on the panel.

Celebrity Cruises Previously Announced the 100-Day Cruise

Celebrity Cruises unveiled its 2026–2027 itinerary last month, and among the options is a brand-new 110-day cruise.

The Grand Voyage from Canada to Southeast Asia, which will span more than three months, is the voyage that sticks out among the luxury liner’s new itinerary, which was revealed in a press release. As the line’s longest cruise without a port recurrence, the 110-night journey will make stops at 55 places across 15 nations.

“The Grand Voyage offers the ultimate way for guests to indulge their sense of wanderlust, all while enjoying the award-winning service and amenities that Celebrity is famous for,” the press release states.

The Grand Voyage journey will set sail from Vancouver on Sept. 13, 2026, aboard the 2,852-person Celebrity Solstice. The ship has “just come out of dry dock,” the statement said, and will be renovated prior to departure.
