Del Taco Is Opening Its First Location in South Florida. Here Are the Details

November 16, 2024

Del Taco has long been considered a West Coast institution, but now, the fast-food giant is expanding its presence. A recent report revealed that the Mexican-American-inspired chain is opening its first location in South Florida. Here are the details that we know so far.

Del Taco Is Coming to Port St. Lucie

According to TCPalm, Port St. Lucie will soon be the site of Del Taco’s first store in South Florida.

Although it is the second restaurant being considered for the Treasure Coast, this is the first one that has been confirmed to open there. The outlet revealed earlier this year that Texas Roadhouse and Del Taco were awaiting permission for their Vero Beach development plans.

Oliver Hurd, founder & managing partner at 61 Holdings, informed the outlet that the Port St. Lucie site will open in the first or second week of January. It will be situated adjacent to the Sam’s Club at 10950 US 1.

According to Hurd, Port St. Lucie was chosen as the first South Florida location because of its expansion. Additionally, he stated that his team intends to open a second Del Taco shop in Stuart the following year.

Currently, there are nine Del Taco locations in Florida: Orlando, Kissimmee, Port Charlotte, Bradenton, DeFuniak Springs, Melbourne, Port Orange, Santa Rosa Beach, and Tallahassee. The first Del Taco was established in Yermo, California, in 1964 by Ed Hackbarth and David Jameson. The menu included both American fast-food favorites like cheeseburgers and french fries as well as Mexican mainstays like tacos and tostadas.

With 597 sites throughout 11 states, the Tex-Mex fast-food brand has grown nationally since its founding 50 years ago.

Franchisees Are Being Honored

While the Mexican-American-inspired chain continues its expansion, its franchisees are being honored by their fellow professionals. Earlier this month, a Del Taco franchisee was in the running for CFO of the Year.

Brent Veach is a Del Taco developer and franchisee who owns and operates 50 stores with 925 employees, according to AZ Big Media. He operates in two markets: Arizona and Colorado. In 1999, he began by building and operating a single restaurant in Phoenix.

The outlet nominated him for the CFO of the Year award because he was one of the Arizona business community’s “unsung heroes.” Julie Shaw, co-chair of the CFO of the Year Awards, stated, “While other business leaders often grab the headlines, CFOs are invaluable in the background, driving financial strategy, managing risks, leveraging data insights and ensuring businesses remain competitive, agile and financially resilient in a changing economy.”
