Dog Treats Recalled by FDA Due to Salmonella Risk
November 26, 2024
The FDA has recalled a brand of dog treats sold in at least 19 states due to a risk of salmonella.
Newsweek reports that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced on Saturday, Nov. 23, that 400 16-ounce bags of “Hollywood Feed Carolina Made Chicken Chips” dog treats from Carolina Prime Pet Inc. of Lenoir, North Carolina, are being recalled because of possible salmonella contamination.
The business started the recall as a precaution to protect the safety of consumers and pets, even though no illnesses have been linked to this product as of yet.
The broad recall includes retail establishments in 19 states in the Southeast, Midwest, and Mid-Atlantic regions. The company’s internet retail site, www.hollywoodfeed.com, also sold potentially tainted goodies.
Consumers can identify the impacted product by looking for lot number 20051324L2 and an expiration date of Nov. 13, 2025, which are indicated on the rear of the recognizable purple-and-black packaging. The business stresses that this particular lot number is the only one in its product range that is possibly tainted.
When testing by a third-party laboratory revealed contamination in a related but commercially unreleased lot of the same product, the possible contamination was discovered after standard quality control procedures.
Regarding this recall, the business has set up specific channels for customer service. Consumers who bought dog treats from the impacted lot are advised to stop using them right away. They may also get information regarding returns and refunds by getting in touch with Carolina Prime Pet.
Dog Treats Are the Latest Recalled Pet Product
These dog treats are just the latest recall for pet products. Back in July, a subscription-based product from Hillsborough, North Carolina, was the subject of a statewide dog and cat food recall. The well-known Viva Raw company voluntarily recalled the products because of Listeria concerns, according to the official announcement.
On Monday, July 1, the FDA published a formal notification regarding the food recall for dogs and cats. In particular, Viva Turkey for Dogs Ground, Viva Turkey for Dogs Chunked, Viva Turkey for Cats, Viva Pure Turkey, and Viva Beef & Turkey for Puppies — all produced under Lot 21244 — were recalled by the business.
No dogs or cats were reported to become ill as a result of the goods. The FDA further clarified at the time that the sole contaminated product was from Lot 21244. All customers who bought food from the lot between May 16 and June 28, 2024, were notified of the recall by Viva Raw.
