Walmart Continues Partnership With Wreaths Across America To Honor Fallen Veterans
December 16, 2024
Walmart is continuing its partnership with the organization Wreaths Across America to honor fallen veterans. Each year, drivers transport thousands of wreaths to cemeteries nationwide, paying tribute to U.S. veterans for National Wreaths Across America Day.
General Transportation Manager Jenny Lovering stated, “The wreaths are the most meaningful cargo they will haul throughout their whole career.” But, before the wreaths can be laid at their final destinations, they must first be made. Each is handcrafted in Columbia Falls, Maine.
A fleet of Walmart drivers transports these meaningful wreaths across the country to cemeteries and memorials. Some of these locations include Virginia’s Arlington National Cemetery and the Flight 93 National Memorial in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, honoring the heroes of the crew and passengers of Flight 93 on Sept. 11, 2001.
When Did Walmart Begin Its Work With Wreaths Across America?
Walmart’s work with Wreaths Across America began in 2008. It has become a nationwide effort to remember the fallen heroes of the United States.
The Wreaths Across America mission is “to remember the fallen, honor our active military, and teach the next generation through the stories of the past men and women who have served.” Walmart’s press site explained that the yearly event is a “mission that aligns deeply with Walmart’s values. And as one of the country’s largest employers of U.S. veterans, our support is one way for us to honor their contributions.”
The retailer continued, “Our relationship with Wreaths Across America extends beyond the transportation and placement of wreaths. Over the past two decades, Walmart has supported this cause with cash and in-kind donations, including a $750,000 grant made in 2023 that will support the organization for five years. This year alone, Walmart, Sam’s Club and our supply chain facilities have given over $126,000 in Spark Good local grants to support Wreaths Across America and its community affiliates”
Volunteers across the country assist in placing the wreaths at more than 4,000 veterans’ cemeteries across the country to honor those who have served in the United States military. This year, National Wreaths Across America Day took place on Saturday, Dec. 14, and thousands of Walmart associates joined volunteers at more than 130 locations to ensure these men and women were honored.
