Walmart Christmas Tree Light Controllers Recalled Over Fire Safety Concerns

December 17, 2024

Walmart has been selling the very popular Mr. Christmas tree lights, but now, one type of light controller is being recalled over fire safety concerns.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission issued an official recall on Dec. 12 for the light controllers, which are also sold at Cracker Barrel and Target. Due to the potential for the wireless receiver to overheat and create a fire, more than 44,000 wireless Christmas tree light controllers are being recalled in total.

The two components of the recalled light controllers are a wireless receiver that connects to a wall socket and a decorative lever or switch that controls the lights on a Christmas tree.

One version of the controller is sold at Walmart and Cracker Barrel, and it is “shaped like a green, red and white peppermint candy with a candy cane on/off lever, and displays the words ‘Christmas Light Controller.’” Target’s version is “sold under the Wondershop brand and is shaped like a square on/off switch box with green, red and white balls, and displays the words ‘Tree Lighting Switch.’”

Mr. Christmas, the company that developed the controllers, has already received 10 reports of overheating. One incident involved a fire, but there have been no reports of injuries. Stores and online retailers sold the recalled light controllers for $25 to $40 between July and November 2024.

Customers should cease using the recalled light controllers right away and send them back for a complete refund.

Walmart Partnership With Wreaths Across America

In more positive Christmas news, Walmart recently announced its continued partnership with Wreaths Across America to honor fallen veterans.

On National Wreaths Across America Day, drivers transport thousands of wreaths to cemeteries around the country in remembrance of American veterans.

Jenny Lovering, Walmart’s general transportation manager, said, “The wreaths are the most meaningful cargo they will haul throughout their whole career.”

These heartfelt wreaths are delivered to cemeteries and memorials across the nation by a fleet of Walmart drivers. Among these sites are the Flight 93 National Memorial at Shanksville, Pennsylvania, which honors the bravery of the crew and passengers of Flight 93 on Sept. 11, 2001, and Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia.

In 2008, Walmart started working with Wreaths Across America. It has grown into a national endeavor to honor America’s fallen heroes. The retail giant’s press site explained that the yearly event is a “mission that aligns deeply with Walmart’s values. And as one of the country’s largest employers of U.S. veterans, our support is one way for us to honor their contributions.”
