Billionaire Marc Lore Says AI May Soon Be Choosing Your Food

December 20, 2024

Artificial intelligence has gone from a slow creep into our daily lives to a full-on, in-your-face phenomenon in just the past year. Now, according to one billionaire, AI is even going to start picking what meals we eat.

Marc Lore, whose company Wonder recently purchased food delivery service Grubhub for $650 million, says AI will soon handle food selection and delivery. Apparently, he’s already testing its viability.

“I’ve already started experimenting myself to see what [relying on an algorithm to select meals] is like. And so basically for lunch and dinner every day, I don’t know what I’m going to eat until I sit down,” said Lore, per the New York Post

While Lore’s own food delivery service Wonder has a concentrated presence in New York City, the company has its eyes on expanding to other cities, like Philadelphia and Boston, by 2026. By 2035, Lore expects Wonder to be available in every U.S. state, and he’s utilizing AI to do it.

Marc Lore Says AI Will Predict How Food Affects the Body

Right now, Wonder is looking to AI to decrease costs by automating some tasks usually assigned to humans. Yet, Marc Lore is waiting for AI to advance to levels that can enhance the customer experience, such as making meal recommendations based on budget constraints, dietary preferences, and health factors. That’s when AI will have its “breakthrough” moment.

“We’re talking about five to 10 years into the future here. But I’m thinking about the bigger vision … there’s a real opportunity for AI to have a place in telling people what they should eat on a meal basis,” he described. “Think about an AI that knows you as well as you know yourself.”

The AI can keep track of meals and analyze body changes or detect when something is not quite right when eating various foods. If someone has a negative reaction to certain meals, the AI will know, potentially advising against getting that meal again.
